Fly Fishing Holidays

The Yorkshire Dales in North Yorkshire is the perfect place for a fly fishing holiday, with every ingredient to make your stay a memorable one. As you will see throughout the website, there are many opportunities for fly fishing, whether you are looking for trout fishing, grayling fishing, river fly fishing, stillwater flyfishing, or a fly fishing course with tuition and accommodation.

Fly fishing holidays can be a single night, a weekend break, short break, stag weekend, a week or more – you decide. The itinerary of your fly fishing holiday will be arranged to meet your requirements, whether that be river trout fishing, grayling fishing, stillwater fly fishing or fly fishing from a boat. Your fly fishing holiday will be tailor made to suit you and will be varied and interesting, fishing a different location each day. Just let me know your preferences and I will do the rest. One day might be trout fishing on the River Wharfe at Bolton Abbey, next day fly fishing for grayling on the River Ure or fly fishing from a drifting boat for wild brown trout or rainbow trout. You may want to get away from it all and have some challenging fly fishing on a small stream (known locally as a beck). You will get all the information you need from this website and hopefully, if I have written this site well, you will get a feel of what fly fishing in the Yorkshire Dales is all about and of the passion that I have for the Yorkshire Dales and the tremendous fly fishing resource we have here.

Grayling Fishing Breaks

Autumn and winter in the Yorkshire Dales is grayling time. Join me during autumn or winter on a grayling fishing break for 1, 2 or 3 nights, staying in a traditional Yorkshire Dales pub and fishing a different river each day. I will guide you each day targeting grayling on the rivers of the Yorkshire Dales, at this wonderful time of the year.  In autumn we use dry flies, nymphs, spiders and Czech Nymphs to seduce the grayling, but as we move through the winter our flies need to be nearer the bottom of the stream to entice the grayling. We then almost exclusively fish with heavily weighted nymphs and we need to read the water to find the "Lady of the Stream". This is still rewarding fishing though, and double figure numbers of grayling can be expected. At the end of a successful day's fishing, as the nights draw in, relax in front of a real fire in a Yorkshire Dales pub/hotel with a pint of Yorkshire ale or a glass of fine wine and a freshly cooked meal.

Getting To The Yorkshire Dales

The nearest airports to the Yorkshire Dales are Leeds/Bradford (LBA) and Manchester (MAN). The Yorkshire Dales are very accessible by train, with Skipton being the nearest railway station. Trains run to Skipton from Leeds regularly, a journey of about 40 minutes. Taxis are available outside the railway station to take you to your accommodation in the Skipton area. The Tempest Arms (see below) is just a 10 minute taxi ride away. If you want transport from somewhere else please contact me to discuss your requirements. I am happy to meet you at your accommodation in the Skipton area each day and transport you to wherever we are fishing.

Accommodation Options

There is a large selection of accommodation in the Yorkshire Dales to suit all pockets including, hotels, B&B's, pubs, self catering cottages, even camping and Youth Hostels. You will get all the information you need from specialist accommodation websites, but I do recommend the following pub and cottages as being particularly suitable and highly regarded...

The Tempest Arms

The Tempest Arms

The Tempest Arms is a cosy pub, superb restaurant and luxury hotel. It is very highly rated, excels at what it does and is exactly the sort of place I like to stay when I'm on a fishing trip. Locally it is probably THE best known dining pub and has been for many, many, years. I have been eating and drinking at the Tempest for more years than I care to admit and I have no hesitation in recommending it to my clients. There are 21 rooms, which do tend to get booked up very quickly, so making an early reservation is advised.
